Wine

Zweigelt

Created by Dr. Fritz Zweigelt at the famous Klosterneuberg enology school in 1922, the eponymously named variety is a crossing of Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent.  Since its introduction it has come to be the most widely planted red grape variety in Austria with close to 6,500 hectares under vine.  In Austria, the wine made from this grape is either loved or loathed for its often times simple, young drinking iterations.
